Ford lets Maverick pickup owners print out their own accessories

Ford has officially released detailed specifications of certain interior trim pieces fitting its newly launched light truck Maverick. Along with the publicly available 3D blueprints, owners can now 3D-print the options they need instead of buying them.

Called the FITS (Ford Integrated Tether System), it enables adding up to eight handy storage niches and pockets to the cabin: some at the front row, some under the rear bench and some near the center console.

Scott Anderson, from the Ford design team, said the company was ready to trim down its accessory lineup. He said that by printing out their own accessories, pickup owners would be able to feel a closer connection to the truck. At the same time, the new decision will incentivize 3D printing, which is on the rise in the USA right now.

Apparently, Ford noticed the abundance of unofficial mods for the Maverick trade by 3D printer owners online and decided to help them by publishing the more precise official blueprints.
