Shortly after premiering the updated Maverick, Ford has now rolled out its sported-up Lobo version. It draws upon the style of the 1990s-era street trucks with sporty chassis settings and a mildly revised powertrain. There will be two trims to choose from, with the top one priced at $40,500.
The 2.0-liter turbo four-pot still burns gas for 254 PS (251 hp / 188 kW), but the transmission is now seven-speed instead of eight-speed. Ford explains that some revisions were made in the shifting logic to enable faster acceleration. Engine cooling was improved, too.
The suspension ended up with tweaked shocks and new springs reducing the ride height by 13 mm (one-half of an inch) at the front and 28 mm (1.1 inches) at the back. Ford also mentions a roof that’s 20 mm (0.8 inches) lower, but doesn’t specify whether that comes naturally from the new suspension or chopped pillars.
Elsewhere, the Lobo version of the Maverick makes use of performance brakes borrowed from the Focus ST, improved handling, and torque vectoring. A dedicated drive present called Lobo optimizes the settings for track days.
On the outside, novelty boils down to restyled bumpers and 19-inch wheels. The interior gets a special color scheme with dominating blue and green hues.
Preordering is already available, but the first shipments are only scheduled for early 2025.
