One of George Barris’ famous hot rods goes on sale in Palm Beach

An auction will be held in Palm Beach, Florida dedicated to an antique Ford Model T substantially redesigned by famous American customizer George Barris back in the 1960s. There is no asking price.

Standing behind the conversion is a man named Don Lokey, who reportedly inspired the build and donated the Model T body to it. The rest of the car has nothing to do with Ford: the frame and the suspension are all-new, and a 4.6-liter V8 from a 1957 Chevrolet Corvette drives the wheels. The interior is likewise a custom creation.

The project was showered with show awards, but Lokey felt he needed to continue perfecting the car and secured the assistance of George Barris to do so. The customizer retrofitted it with a 1915 Model T radiator grille and designed a completely new front fascia around it. In turn, Barris Kustoms put new lights on the car along with special rear fenders and some other mods.

Once finished, the hot rod proceeded to rake in more awards and titles, but his owner started to drive it less and eventually parked it in a garage for three decades. He then sold it to its current owner and seller.
