The Ministry of Industry and IT of China has uploaded some photos of the upcoming Ford Mondeo to its database. The Mondeo goes discontinued in Europe next spring, but in China, it will debut with a brand-new design not unlike that of the Evos and Mustang Mach-E. AutoHome claims it will also become larger than the old generation.
Despite changing the artistic direction, the Mondeo will retain its four-door sedan body. The exterior will look particularly expressive with its slim lighting, bulky bumpers, unusually shaped c-pillars, and an integrated spoiler. Wheels will max out at 19 inches.
Certain photos depict an ST Line trim example with darkened body accents, a black roof, a faux diffuser in the back and a more pronounced spoiler.
At 4,935 mm with 2,945 mm of wheelbase, the new Mondeo for China is 62 mm longer with 95 mm more wheelbase than the current generation. It is also around 30 mm wider and taller.
Engines remain to be announced, but the company has already confirmed that a 2.0-liter turbo rated at 238 PS (235 hp / 175 kW) is on the list.
It remains to be seen whether the Euro-spec Mondeo will ever get a successor model. If it does, then it could be a modification of the Chinese Evos CUV (watch the video to get an idea). Ford might want to start offering it in the Old World countries in a more sedan-like body and under a different name as well.
