When Ford unveiled the new Mondeo for China a few weeks ago, many rumor sites claimed it would never reach the US market. Furthermore, Motor1 Germany published an official statement claiming the car was not meant for sale in Europe, either. Imagine our surprise when it was spotted testing in Michigan – on two separate occasions, no less.
The depicted prototype seems to be the same for both sightings, but this is the first time it wears a license plate. Does it necessarily mean that it will be available in the United States, despite the conflicting reports? No, not as such. It could have been running some unrelated tests there.
Changan Ford reveals little about the new Mondeo, but mentions that it is both slightly longer and wider than the current version. The badges on the early photos suggest it comes with a 2.0-liter EcoBoost mill rated at 245 PS (242 hp / 180 kW), among other possible options.
