Mere five or six years ago, making jokes about Tesla Motors and its CEO/founder Elon Musk was normal. There had been many skeptics who had said the entire idea – mass production of all-electric cars – had been at least not commercially viable, or altogether a scam. Today, when most leading car manufacturers switch to electric drivetrains and tuners follow their example, their voices are much harder to hear.
Charge Automotive just took the wraps off this all-electric Ford Mustang, packing a new Arrival engine instead of the old gasoline V8. The engine produces 408 hp (304 kW) and 1,200 Nm (885 lb×ft) of torque, and accelerates the pony car 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in only 3.1 seconds. This crazy acceleration is partly owing to its new AWD transmission.
On the whole, Charge Automotive plans to release 499 electrified Mustang fastbacks and convertibles. Prices begin at a hefty €230,000. Now, supposing the price wasn’t an issue, would you buy one?
