50-year-old Mustang gets a new V8 along with futuristic cabin design

There is a very special project that we would like to share with you: a custom 1969 Ford Mustang restomod that goes by the name Project Manticore.

The vehicle belongs to Hassane el-Khoury, CEO of Cypress Semiconductor, a company that produces touch-enabled panels, screens and interfaces for OEMs. We do not know just who exactly led the extensive restoration and modernization project.

The tuner began by removing the old engine and putting a massive 5.0-liter supercharged V8 in its place, rated at a formidable 785 hp (585 kW). The car also gained a new six-speed manual transmission, suspension and brakes.

That said, it is still the interior of the Project Manticore that surprises the most. There is a large touchscreen display serving as the instrument panel, and not a single physical control in the entire cabin. Everything except the gear selector is touch-operated.

The feature list includes such highlights as an up-to-date multimedia system with smartphone connectivity, satellite navigation, high-end car audio, and numerous other tech-heavy things. To get inside, you must either use an RFID proximity-based key or override the door lock by entering a PIN code.

So, how do you like this Mustang?
