Ruffian Cars and its owner Chris Ashton attended the 2019 SEMA show with this unique 1970 Ford Mustang “Ruffian”. Let us delve into details concerning its aerodynamic kit and engine swap.
Just as we suspected during the show debut, nearly the entire body kit the fastback wears is made of metal, rather than carbon fiber. Chris opined that many tuners tend to exaggerate the time and effort associated with producing such kits. Among other things, he said he had managed to shape up the fenders in just 40 hours.
The one-off restomod rides on massive 19”x12.5” Signature One wheels wrapped in Toyo Proxes R88R rubber. Its carbon hood conceals a Blueprint Engines-tweaked LS3 V8 with a cast-aluminum cylinder block. Six-speed manual transmission ensures that up to 625 hp (466 kW) hits the rear wheels, while a custom exhaust system livens things up acoustically.
The cabin of the Ford Mustang Ruffian is typical for such projects: there is a roll cage, bucket seats and little besides. Despite the Spartan look, Chris actually uses the car as his daily driver and couldn’t be happier about it.
