Ford says there will be no Mustang V8 7.3

Remember the 7.3-liter, single-camshaft V8 engine Ford unveiled for its Super Duty truck lineup? The mill churns 430 hp (321 kW) and could easily fit under the hood of the current Mustang despite the massive cylinder assembly – but won’t, an official Ford representative says.

According to the press release, the company is not planning to ship the Mustang with the V8 7.3, even though it technically fits the muscle car. The main issue is its great weight and overall optimization for lower RPM counts, making it primarily useful for trucks and other heavy lifters. Its performance in the Mustang would be subpar without costly R&D and repurposing.

Having said that, you could still use a crate version of the engine in an older Mustang if you wanted to.
