The founder of Gymkhana has published the third episode of Hoonicorn vs The World, a series where he tries his luck against the fastest drag strip cars in the world. This time around, his 1,400-HP (1,044-kW) strong Mustang raced an even wilder Chevy Impala.
Called the Donkmaster, the 49-year-old vehicle only really has the Impala body remaining. The suspension is all-new, the wheels measure 28 inches across, the interior stems from a Corvette, and a brake parachute is included, of course. The seven-liter turbocharged V6 has been sourced from a Chevrolet Corvette Z06 (C6) and pumps put 1,500 HP (1,119 kW). The car weighs in at around 2,270 kilos (5,000 lbs).
The Ford Mustang Hoonicorn packs a 6.7-liter V8 fitted with dual Garrett turbos and pairs up with a sequential transmission. The car weighs a mere trifle – 1,360 kg (3,000 lbs).
The first race sees the Donkmaster launch too early, and the second attempt results in the Hoonicorn blasting off and pretty much leaving the Impala for dead. Ken given the Chevy a generous amount of headway in the final, bonus race, but the result stays the same. The driver believes the Donkmaster’s lack of traction control is to blame for the loss.
