It may be hard to believe, but a tuner from Australia actually came up with a Ford Mustang GT capable of blasting past a quarter-mile stretch in less than 10 seconds AND being driven on public roads.
He originally bought a 2017MY Mustang and hoped that minor tweaks would be enough for drag racing. After putting all of 400 horsepower to the wheels testing his ride in the summer of 2019 – a decidedly poor number by modern standards – he realized fiddling with the ECU wasn’t just going to do it.
He then proceeded to retrofit the muscle pony with the D-1X Procharger Stage 2 kit, raising the output to a respectable 743 hp (554 kW). To maximize the usefulness of that upgrade, he swapped the OEM wheels out for Forgestar F14 ones and put them in Mickey Thompson ET S/S 17” motorsport tires. After several attempts, he finally managed to cover a quarter of a mile (402 meters) in 9.88 seconds, hitting the finish line at 229.6 km/h (142.7 mph).
