Last week, Hennessey Performance announced a limited series of 50 Ford Mustang GT Legend Edition inspired by the 1966 Ford GT40. Let’s delve into the details.
Each muscle car will get a black-and-white livery reminiscent of what the Le Mans-winning GT40 built on the second-gen P/1046 chassis wore to the endurance race more than half of a century ago. Check out the fashionable white pinstripes running down the hood, the roof, the front end and the sides.
Performance-wise, the stock five-liter V8 will be getting a massive 3.0-liter supercharger. To put things into perspective, even the top-of-the-line Mustang Shelby GT500 makes do with “mere” 2.7 liters of supercharger volume. The Hennessey Mustang is also more powerful at 819 PS (808 hp / 602 kW) versus 771 PS (760 hp / 567 kW) and has more torque at 918 Nm (677 lb-ft) versus 847 Nm (625 lb-ft).
Equipped like this, the Legend Edition can sprint 0-60 mph (0-97 km/h) in 3.3 seconds and run a quarter of a mile in 10.7 seconds. Top speed lies above 322 km/h (200 mph).
Other highlights include a body kit, low suspension, 20-inch forged wheels, and optional six-piston Brembo calipers at the front axle.
Prices remain to be announced.
