Some three years ago, Charge presented us with its vision of an electric sports car based on the 55-year-old Ford Mustang Fastback. It has finally completed the development and is showing us the production-ready model.
The company was able to procure a license for the body and trim of the original ‘Stang from Ford, so the differences are minimal here. The radiator grille is now solid, the headlights are LED-based, the door handles are installed flush with the panels, and the wheels are new, but the overall shape stays recognizable. Of course, all Blue Oval badges get replaced with Charge ones.
Things are vastly different in the cabin, where the seats and the steering wheel are modern-looking and minimalistic, the gear selector is button-based, and very little reminds of the original Mustang interior. Then again, the company pledges to let its customers decide how to personalize the cabin. We will have to wait for the details, though.
As far as the drivetrain is concerned, the only official parameter we know right now is battery capacity, which is at 64 kilowatt-hours. If earlier reports still apply, then the electric Mustang revival will be powered by dual electric motors jointly rated at 544 PS (536 hp / 400 kW) and 1,500 Nm (1,106 lb-ft) of torque. This will enable it to sprint 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in under four seconds and max out at 322 km/h (200 mph).
Production will be limited to 499 units. The original pricing was given as £200,000 (around $262,000 USD at the current rate), but has nearly doubled over the past three years. You can make your pre-order if you feel like getting a Mustang Fastback EV for £350,000 ($458,000 USD).
