A second-gen Ford Mustang made in 1978 is on sale right now with an asking price of $124,995. Should the deal succeed, it will be officially the most expensive representative of that generation.
The car was built for a SEMA show and has very little remaining of the stock tech and bodywork, except for the intact VIN plaque. Still, a new Shelby GT500 will cost you nearly half as much at just $72,900.
The muscle car has 19-inch wheels, rotor brakes, a tube-frame chassis with independent suspension, and 300 mm (12 inches) of extra wheelbase. The seller does not mention the material of the bodywork, but reveals that the interior now only has enough room for two people: there is a safety half-cage in the back instead of the rear bench.
Power for the build comes from a heavily modified V8 Coyote equipped with Borla injection, a different exhaust system and other aftermarket upgrades. A Tremec six-speed manual transmission drives the wheels through a carbon-fiber driveshaft.
The seller claims the coupe has a perfect per-axle weight distribution ratio and handles like a European supercar. No specifics are available regarding engine power, torque, and acceleration times.
