The owner of this Ford Mustang GT Fastback purchased it in the spring of 1979 and had it thoroughly overhauled six years later, replacing the engine. Now, decades later, the muscle car hit the dyno stand. Do you think things will go well for it?
The swap was for a huge seven-liter Cobra Jet V8 mill mated to a five-speed manual transmission (the original made do with a simpler four-speed gearbox). The engine received aluminum cylinder heads and a purpose-made straight-piped exhaust system along with other upgrades.
On the opposite side, the odometer shows north of 60,000 kilometers (38,000 miles) of use, which could compromise the efficiency of the drivetrain. Remaining static in a garage for many years also doesn’t help matters.
In reality, though, the Fastback proved quite alive despite its age, happily churning out 265 PS (261 hp / 195 kW) at 4,600 revolutions per minute and 504 Nm (372 lb-ft) of torque at 2,900 RPM.
