The top spec of the new Ford Mustang is slated to go on sale in Australia with optional five-spoke wheels made from carbon fiber plastic. Designed by Carbon Revolution, the 19-inch wheels should offer substantial weight savings over the OEM set. All pricing remains undisclosed.
The design evokes associations with classic rims the more exotic Mustang editions came equipped with. The manufacturer reckons that each wheel will weigh around 37% less than its alloy counterpart. Reducing the unsprung mass in this way should noticeably improve handling and braking performance.
On the inside, the rims will be coated with ceramics to prevent overheating from braking. Only the buyers of the Dark Horse, the most powerful road-legal Mustang ever produced, will be able to tick this option. The muscle car packs a 5.0-liter naturally aspirated V8 capable of 507 PS (500 hp / 373 kW) and 566 Nm (417 lb-ft) of torque. Carbon Revolution claims the wheels had passed more than 200 different tests before they were approved into production.
The next-gen sports car will reach the assembly lines this summer. The prices and all additional equipment costs will probably be revealed closer to the launch date.
