Ford unveils a Mustang GT3 racer heading to the next Le Mans

Ford Performance took a seventh-generation Mustang Dark Horse and upfitted it to be compatible with GT3 racing regulations. The car will be taking part in the 24 Hours of Le Mans next summer, but its racing career will commence at the 24 Hours of Daytona in late January 2024.

From the technical point of view, it is a street-legal Dark Horse minus the 5.0-liter non-turbo V8. The engine, which made 507 PS (500 hp / 3373 kW) and 566 Nm (417 lb-ft) of torque, was replaced with a superior 5.4-liter mill from the same Coyote series. It was tuned by M-Sport and mated to a transaxle transmission.

Canada-based Multimatic Motorsports, which produced the Ford GT supercar, has once again teamed up with the automaker to design an elaborate body kit for the Mustang GT3. It includes an all-carbon body, a large splitter, a matching rear diffuser and a rear wing. The radiator grille was equipped with extra lighting, the hood and the fenders received additional air vents, and canards were added at the sides. The tailpipes now exit from the sides near the rear fenders, and the entire car is wrapped in a custom livery with an FP (Ford Performance) badge.

The first order for the racer came from Proton Competition racing team. The crew will be taking two such cars to the WEC-2024 (World Endurance Championship), visiting a number of locations throughout the world including Le Mans. As for the Ford Racing Team, it will be competing in the IMSA GTD Pro category next year.
