VMP Performance has announced a rather bold and experimental tuning project that involves upgrading the supercharger setup of the latest Ford Mustang while leaving its two 80mm throttle valves intact.
Projects like these normally involve doing two things simultaneously: increasing fuel consumption and increasing air intake to match. However, the S650 Mustang lineup (model year 2024) employs a particularly tricky ECU encryption to prevent meddling with the internals. Once such an attempt is detected, the electronic systems kick in and disable the affected unit as faulty (or even brick the entire car).
VMP has apparently found a way around these restrictions, but the solution is still incomplete. Once it is done, we will know what the power and torque gains will be. As for the pricing, the company’s previous supercharger kit for the Mustang cost $7,000. The new one is almost guaranteed to be more expensive due to the workarounds required.
