Unlike most of the competition, Ford Motor Company feels no urge to get rid of cars powered by eight-cylinder engines, CEO Jim Farly let it slip while opening a motorsports event in the USA. According to Autoevolution, he said Ford would only stand to benefit from the rest of the market removing itself.
When he mentioned Mustang-based, V8-powered track cars, Farly pointed out that they were quite widespread. Drivers take them through the courses at all kinds of racing events taking place on six continents around the world every single weekend. Not only that, but the data gathered by Ford from these races allows the company to keep improving its street-legal mass-market vehicles. And why were Ford Mustang models so popular among the drivers? According to Farly, the main reason lies in the advantages of the company’s signature engine, the Coyote V8.
Continuing his speech, Ford CEO admitted that electric vehicles were important, too. He went as far as to say EVs compensated for the harmful emissions produced by traditional ICE cars. Specifically, it is having the all-electric Mustang Mach-E in the lineup that ultimately allowed Ford to keep producing the V8-powered Mustangs.
