Demand can transform 1st-gen Ford Mustang into the ultimate off-roader

Borromeo de Silva, a designer from Milan, Italy, has unveiled a rather spectacular project dedicated to building a fully featured off-roader out of a 1968 Ford Mustang. The car is inspired by Sylvester Stallone and will be released in a limited quantity as long as enough buyers show up.

Everything from the exterior to the powertrain and the chassis has been reworked. A roll cage now resides where the fixed roof once was, the overhangs are shorter and new fog lights can bee found in the front bumper. Boxy wheel arches emphasize the off-roader vibe, too. Our personal favorite is the exhaust system, which exits right next to the taillights and has identically shaped tips, so that you can mistake them for yet another pair of brake lights.

Interior highlights include a modern digital dashboard, comfortable seats and other modern amenities. The suspension, the steering and the braking has also been upgraded. It’s a shame that the car only exists in these 3D renderings, though.

The description fails to mention any engine specifics. De Silva says the idea to build an off-road Mustang came to him as he went to the USA as a transfer student. He bought a 1968 ‘Stang fastback there and liked how it fared on the asphalt, but wanted to see it perform better than it did off the paved road. Thus was the concept named the STL1 born.
