One of the recent drag races hosted by the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) saw a battery-powered Ford Mustang Super Cobra Jet 1800 complete a quarter-mile run in 7.759 seconds, setting an absolute record for full-bodywork EVs.
Ford Performance has now published a mini-documentary revealing the preparations that the team had to make before the race and the providing a close look at the race itself.
Starting with a previous-generation electric dragster known as the Cobra Jet 1400, Ford had completely rebuilt its powertrain for the new season. Among other things, the company managed to make the battery 40% lighter, find better-fitting tires and tweak the rear suspension to match the new power and weight figures.
The result is best seen in the six-minute-long video.
