Several years ago, Ron Jones Garage built a track-focused restomod from a 59-year-old Ford Mustang, giving it an Aluminator V8 engine rated at nearly 600 horsepower, independent suspension and many other upgrades. The car recently went up on sale at Bring-a-Trailer and went for $108,808.
The Aluminator XS was designed by Ford Performance as a crate engine for custom race car builds. It uses the V8 block of the Mustang GT350, but benefits from new headers, cams, Mahle forged pistons and other performance components. As a result, it delivers 580 PS (572 hp / 427 kW) and 600 Nm (443 lb-ft) of torque without any forced induction. Power transfer is handled by a Tremec six-speed manual.
Heidts coilovers and other components were used to overhaul the suspension for heavy track use. A peek inside stainless-steel fender flares reveals 18-inch, ultrawide Billet wheels with Wilwood brake calipers behind the spokes. The driver takes advantage of a bucket seat with a Simpson multi-point safety harness, a custom instrument cluster, a roll cage and electric power steering. A battery lies where the rear bench seat once was, and the trunk now accommodates a second gas tank.
With barely over 1,500 km (932 miles) on the odometer since restoration, the car was almost new when it changed hands on BaT.
