Ford Mustang RTR Features Drifting-Focused Enhancements

The new Mustang RTR is based on the entry-level Mustang, which is powered by a turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine producing 315 horsepower. RTR Vehicles, an aftermarket company specializing in Mustangs and Broncos, has partnered with Ford to create this model.

The RTR package includes Ford’s Electronic Drift Brake and a MagneRide adaptive suspension calibrated for sideways action. It also features a steering rack with greater travel for increased steering lock. The vehicle incorporates high-performance chassis parts from the Mustang Dark Horse, such as adjustable strut mounts, stiffer front and rear anti-roll bars, and a rear subframe with stiffer bushings. Other enhancements include the Mustang GT’s more powerful cooling fan and its Performance package’s upgraded Brembo brakes.

The EcoBoost engine retains its stock 315 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque but benefits from an anti-lag system. This system, reportedly derived from Ford’s GT race car, cuts fuel while maintaining an open electronic throttle when the accelerator is lifted, allowing the turbocharger to maintain higher RPMs and develop boost more quickly. A 10-speed automatic transmission is also included.

Visually, the RTR features the Mustang GT fascia with illuminated nostrils and RTR badges. It also includes Tarnished Dark Anodized mirror caps, hood, rocker, and rear quarter graphics, as well as the Mustang GT Performance pack’s rear spoiler and 19-inch wheels. Interior details include a drift brake lever, seatbelts, and stitching in Hyper Lime, along with RTR sill plates and a dash plaque.
