Ford Mustang styled after a fighter jet to debut at Goodwood

A unique Ford Mustang styled after a WWII Eagle Squadron fighter jet will soon participate in the hill climb race part of the 25th Goodwood Festival of Speed. Fighter planes like these belonged to the British Royal Air Force (RAF), but often used to be manned by volunteering U.S. pilots prior to that country’s involvement in the war.

The muscle car has been jointly designed by RTR Vehicles and Ford Performance. The teams gave the Mustang a powerful 5.0-liter engine rated at 710 hp (530 kW), a compound body kit, a sport suspension and an original livery also themed after the British fighter planes of early 20th century.

The vehicle will participate in a hill climb race piloted by self-taught U.S. racing driver Vaughn Gittin Jr. He will be accompanied by Paul Miller, a RAF veteran. Paul’s father served in an Eagle Squadron in the midst of the WWII.

The muscle car will be sold at an auction straight after the event. All money will go into youth development funds.
