Ford has posted a number of photos of its latest electric racecar, the Mustang Cobra Jet 1800. Picking up where the Cobra Jet 1400 left off three years ago, the RWD coupe will attempt to set a number of new world records in its drivetrain class.
The parameters remain to be revealed. All we know is that the electronics and the power output have been improved, and the car lost a few hundred kilos/pounds. The number 1800 could be referring to the horsepower, but the CJ 1400 had more than 1,500 PS when it was released.
Like before, the powertrain consists of four electric motors and the same number of invertors functioning through the original transmission. The drive is on the rear wheels alone.
With this new supercar, Ford intends to beat a few of its own records. Nearly two years ago, the Mustang Cobra Jet 1400 hit the NHRA drag strip and ran the quarter-mile in 8.128 seconds with an exit speed of 276 km/h (171.5 mph). It also hopes to surpass its own launch time record.
