Could Ford be testing the ‘warmed-up’ Mustang Mach 1?

These latest spy photos depict a disguised Ford Mustang that just might be the much-anticipated Mach 1 version.

In the manufacturer’s lineup, the Mach 1 should occupy the middle ground between the GT (466 hp / 347 kW, 569 Nm / 420 lb-ft) and the Shelby GT350 (533 hp / 397 kW, 582 Nm / 430 lb-ft). Right now, the latest Ford Bullitt (486 hp / 362 kW, 569 Nm / 420 lb-ft) sits in this segment. In order to offer something different, the Mach 1 might receive a slight performance boost over the latter.

The test car depicted here wears the Performance Pack Level 2, including a front splitter, Michelin Pilot Sport tires, and Brembo brakes with red calipers. As for the rear spoiler, rear diffuser, and the quad-tip exhaust system, these are usually available as paid options for the Ford GT, but are absent here.

Price-wise, the Mach 1 should also slide right between the GT (U.S. $39,630+) and GT350 ($60,440). The Bullitt starts from $47,705.

While no official information exists to confirm this, many of us expect the Ford Mustang Mach 1 to premiere later this year – likely at the LA Auto Show in November, where Ford introduced its controversially named Mustang Mach-E SUV the last time. Sales will probably begin in 2021.
