Confirmed: Ford Mustang Mach 1 goes global

When Ford announced a limited-run revival of its Mustang Mach 1 model that used to come out from 1968 until the early 2000s, many expected it to be restricted to a few markets. As it turns out, the Mach 1 will be available for purchase wherever the Mustang model is present on official terms.

This represents a detour from the company’s usual policy of making its performance cars, such as the Shelby GT, region-locked to the United States. The resurrected Mach pony comes with a five-liter, 487-hp V8 under the hood that it shares with the Bullit, as well as the Tremec 3160 transmission of the Shelby GT. Customers may still opt for ten-speed automatic if they want to. Suspension and cooling, exhaust and intake components largely stem from the latest GT350 and GT500 specs.

The Mach 1 will strike for a market slot between the baseline Mustang and the “hot” Shelby versions. It will evoke nostalgia with its special 19-inch rims reminiscent of the iconic Magnum 500 ones.

Sales will start next spring.
