Mustang Mach 1 loses to the Shelby lineup in terms of power

As a sort of a bridge model between the GT and the Shelby, most fans had hoped that the Ford Mustang Mach 1 would come closest to the latter in terms of horsepower. Apparently, this is not the case – although it is still a very capable pony, of course.

As it turns out, the 5.0-liter V8 of the Mach 1 churns out 487 PS (480 hp / 358 kW) and 569 Nm (420 lb-ft) of torque. In comparison, the Shelby GT350 and its R version produce 45 PS (45 hp / 33 kW) and 95 Nm (70 lb-ft) more.

On the up side, the Mach 1 still gets to enjoy Shelby’s intake manifold, six-speed manual gearbox, and cooling system. Ten-speed automatic will be available at a premium.

The newcomer also boasts a badass-looking body kit, a new radiator grille design, Shelby exhaust tips and unique 19-inch wheels. The interior makes use of leather seats, an advanced infotainment system, a digital dash and special engravings.

The Mach 1 will ship next spring.
