High-power Mustang Mach-E specs will not have reduced range, Ford says

Despite the added thrust, the Ford Mustang Mach-E GT and its Performance version will run nearly as far on a single charge as the base model, Ford assures.

All Mach-E modifications ship with the same 88-kWh battery unit. The GT version commands 486 PS (479 hp / 357 kW) instead of the usual 465 PS (459 hp / 342 kW). Opting for the Performance package bumps the torque from 813 Nm (600 lb-ft) to 860 Nm (634 lb-ft). To make matters more complicated, the top spec runs on larger 20-inch wheels, which should also reduce its driving range on a charge.

However, Ford EV division exec Darren Palmer says the range is actually almost identical to that of the regular AWD variant of the Mach-E. Specifically, the GT can cover 435 km (270 miles) on a charge and the GT Performance 418 km (260 miles). Palmer says Pirelli summer tires and MagneRide dampers are to thank for this excellent efficiency.

That said, AWD cars naturally have less electric range than their RWD counterparts do, which is why Ford only ships them with larger battery sizes.

The GT starts from U.S. $59,900, while the Performance Edition begins from $64,900. Buyers are eligible for a $7,500 incentive deduction. The first deliveries are scheduled for this fall.
