The leading U.S. carmaker has conducted a survey among the potential buyers of the all-electric Mustang Mach-E and was understandably surprised with the results. Apparently, one in five people will miss the smell of gasoline while driving their EV; furthermore, 70% of the respondents mentioned that smell in one context or another.
As a result, the automaker decided to synthesize a special, conceptual fragrance targeted towards those seeking to combine the acceleration dynamics of the Mach-E SUV with the familiar aroma of high-octane fuel.
The Mach-Eau perfume has been co-developed with Olfiction and gives off undertones of “smoke and tires”, according to its creators. It introduces salvia and ginger highlights to offset those rougher scents. As one may expect, no actual petrol is contained in the mix; the smell is a compound of many aromatic substances.
Whether you shuddered at the idea of using such a perfume or reached for your wallet, you may relax now: it will not be available for sale, now or ever. It was just a publicity stunt, after all.
