Ford Mustang Mach-E sets a Guinness Book record

Tire manufacturer Bridgestone has reported a new EV range record set by none other than the Ford Mustang Mach-E. The electric crossover has covered 916.74 km (569.64 miles) of roads in the UK, beating the previous record by roughly 9 km (5.5 miles).

Bridgestone teamed up with Webfleet for this PR stunt. The Mach-E was a single-motor spec equipped with a 91-kWh battery pack normally rated for 600 km (373 miles) of range. The company claims it picked a route for it that consisted of many alternating stretches of road ranging from city streets to highways, so that the result would look as natural as possible. After reporting an empty battery, the Mach-E proceeded to cover slightly over 30 km (18 miles) before finally stopping.

The previous record belonged to a Zeekr EV from China, which covered over 907 km (563 miles) last September. As for the all-time best result of 2,573.8 km (1,599.3 miles), it belongs to a one-off EV prototype built as a proof of concept and not as a car for everyday driving.

It’s worth noting that the Mach-E that set the Guinness record this week wasn’t completely stock, either. Among other things, it rode on 18-inch wheels (down from 19-inch stock ones) and wore low-resistance Bridgestone tires.
