This gorgeous Shelby Mustang GT500R took 8 months to build

Look at this magnificent retro Shelby Mustang GT500 dating all the way back to 1967! Does it look authentic enough to you? Because what you really, actually see here is a modern car, called “Shelby GT500R” and built just a few years ago by Los-Angeles based tuner MAG Motors.

The company has only completed three vehicles so far, each one requiring 7 to 8 months of painstaking handiwork. The starting point is the 2014 Shelby GT500 that comes equipped with a potent 5.8-liter, supercharged V8 engine capable of 662 hp (494 kW) and 856 Nm (631 lbft) of torque.

In the beginning, MAG Motors disassembles the car almost entirely and then reassembles it with a new, all-carbon body stylized after that of the original GT500.

The conversion doesn’t nearly end there, though. The team then installs a sports exhaust system and does an ECU remap to boost the engine output to a stellar 720 hp (537 kW). We don’t know exactly how fast this Shelby GT500R is, but the odometer top speed marker reading “360” could be an indication.

Each vehicle also gets 15-inch Brembo brakes with perforated discs, 19-inch MAG Wheels and a posh interior makeover that involves heated/ventilated seats, a modern infotainment system, a rear view camera, a hi-end sound system, keyless start-and-go and much, much else.

The original 2014 Shelby GT500 costs around $50,000 in the United States. The GT500R by MAG Motors will set you back around $200,000.
