Ford has released the main technical specifications of its upcoming 2020 Mustang Shelby GT500. The muscle car will arrive packing an improved 5.2-liter V8 engine rated at 760 hp (567 kW) and 847 Nm (625 lb-ft) of torque, available from 3,000 RPM onwards.
The GT350 – GT500’s junior sibling – comes equipped with the same eight-cylinder mill, but the newcomer benefits from a larger compressor (2,650 cm3), as well as various optimizations made to the design of the crankshaft, valves, and cylinder block.
The engineers say the new GT500 delivers around 850 hp (634 kW) at the crank, but some of the power gets lost on the supercharger drive.
The standard acceleration times remain unannounced, but the company does mention that the car needs 10.6 seconds to get to 161 km/h (100 mph) and then back to zero. This is made possible thanks to a seven-speed DCT transmission and 420mm (16.4”) front brake discs.
In terms of visual appearance, the extreme Mustang boasts an aerodynamic kit, massive air intakes, a custom paint, performance brake calipers and a high-end exhaust system.
The standard trim version will start shipping this fall, with prices starting from U.S. $74,000.
