Tuned like this, the new Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 is a match for the GT

Ford has only recently begun shipping the 2020 Mustang Shelby GT500, and it soon turned out that the car was no match for the Ford GT on a drag strip, despite the higher claimed specs. Palm Beach Dyno decided to address this issue.

First off, the tuner team put the stock GT500 on a dyno stand to measure its true power. Out of the claimed 770 hp (574 kW), only 664 hp (495 kW) reached the wheels, meaning around 13% in transmission losses. To improve the RWHP number, the tuner swapped the standard air filter out for a sport-spec one, raised the max rev count from 7,500 to 8,000 RPM, and came up with a better fuel mixture. These three measures caused the RWHP to raise to 720 (537 kW), while the max torque went up to 785 Nm (579 lb-ft).

Palm Beach Dyno believes this much power is enough to show the Ford GT the taillights. At any rate, the potential for further tuning is still there, because the supercharger, the ECU and the exhaust system remain completely stock.
