Video: 1,270-PS Mustang Shelby GT500 gets revved up on the dyno

Even in its range-topping Shelby GT500 guise, the Ford Mustang makes do with a relatively low boost pressure of just 5 psi. This does not prevent it from making 721 PS (711 hp / 530 kW) and 732 Nm (540 lb-ft) of torque. What would happen if you raised the pressure?

This is what tuners wanted to find out in this video. They removed the stock supercharger and put a twin-turbo kit in its place. Already at 7 psi, the output rose by 57 PS (56 hp / 42 kW) and 42 Nm (30 lb-ft). Taking things further to 12 psi and then 17 psi helped extract even more power.

Finally, at 20.5 psi, the dyno registered an insane 1,270 PS (1,252 hp / 934 kW) and 1,175 Nm (867 lb-ft) of torque at the rear wheels. The experiment broke off there and then, but the Hellion Twin Turbo build should soon hit the drag strip. Here’s wondering whether it has the traction to deliver all that power to the ground through just two wheels…
