Drag Race: BMW M5 Competition vs. Ford Mustang Shelby GT 500

Road Race TV has pitted a Mustang Shelby GT 500 up against a BMW M5 Competition in a very close series of quarter-mile runs.

The North American coupe has a 5.2-liter supercharged V8 under its command with 760 PS (750 hp / 559 kW) and 847 Nm (625 lb-ft) of torque. A dual-clutch transmission carries these neat power and torque numbers to the rear axle.

In turn, the M5 Competition rocks a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 rated at 625 PS (616 hp / 460 kW) and 750 Nm (553 lb-ft) of torque. An eight-speed automatic transmission drives all four wheels.

If you want to know the outcome, then the Ford won the first race coming in 10.996 seconds, while the M5 was second with 11.286 seconds. The second run saw the BMW get a slow start, but the driver reacted quickly enough to jump into gear and win the race. He still showed 11.173 seconds against the Mustang’s 10.998 seconds.
