Unique Kendall Custom restomod heading to a charity auction

A one-off vehicle built to order by Kendall Motor Oil and inspired by the 1967 Mustang Shelby GT500 will be auctioned off in January with the proceedings going to a fund helping children with cancer.

The Shelby GT500 coupe came out in the mid-1960s and boomed in popularity with the premiere of a remake of Gone in 60 Seconds two decades ago. Car collectors are now actively looking both for exact replicas of the car featured in the movie and for its “loosely inspired” lookalikes. The Kendall Custom you see here falls under the second category.

The car comes finished in a special shade of red and rocks enormous bespoke wheels with brake calipers seen behind the spokes.

Many restomods of that era become electrified nowadays, but this one comes powered by the god old Ford Coyote V8 turbocharged by a pair of Garrett turbos for 1,080 PS (1,065 hp / 794 kW). A six-speed automatic transmission sends the torque to the rear axle.

The cabin reminds of the cinematic source of inspiration with its black leather and suede trim, red stitching for contrast, and polished aluminum inserts. A modern infotainment display is also present.

There is no asking price, but the charity foundation points out that treating a child with cancer costs $25,000 USD on average.
