A spokesperson for Shelby American has confirmed that the company plans to resurrect the 1967 Mustang GT500 Super Snake muscle car series in a new batch consisting of just 10 vehicles each priced at U.S. $250,000 and featuring its own VIN number.
Apart from unique number plates, each car will get autograph plaques bearing signatures of Carroll Shelby and Don McCain, former founders and leaders of the company.
All cars will come equipped with four-speed manual transmission and a 550 hp (410 kW) V8 engine. Customers will be able to choose the piston assembly to be either aluminum or cast-iron. Apart from that, each car will get the same exact brake system as its 50-year old ancestor did.
The new series will be easy to identify on the street thanks to the trademark Shelby stripes running from the hood cover to the trunk lid.
The GT500 Super Snake muscle car model is based on a production vehicle named Shelby Mustang. In contrast to that one, it features lighter, stronger engine rated at above 500 hp (370 kW), rear-axle compensation gear and extension rods, as well as a set of Goodyear Thunderbolt tires. It is actually this tire set that had brought the Super Snake series its fame – Carroll Shelby had specifically built the sports vehicle as part of a project to test a new tire design by Goodyear.
