The premiere date of the top-of-the-line Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 hasn’t been set so far, but we now have an official image of the new coupe to go by. The vehicle is marketed as the main contender of the Chevrolet Camaro, the Dodge Challenger Demon and the Hellcat – no wonder so many fans of ultra-powerful cars wait for the premiere with great anticipation.
The photo shows the new Mustang from above, complete with its prominent, bulging hood cover that houses air intakes, the massive rear wing and the characteristic body stripes. Side mirror and headlight housings are made out of the same material, likely carbon.
The North American car corporation remains tight-lipped about the technical specifications of the vehicle. What little we know is that the new Shelby gets a five-liter engine over 700 hp strong, a drag-race start assist and high-performance brakes. With hardware like this, it is reasonable to expect speeds in excess of 340 km/h (211 mph).
The vehicle, which Ford claims is going to be equally well-suited to racing circuits and common roads, should celebrate its premiere sometime in 2019.
