Ford unveils the Puma in Europe, showcases class-leading trunk

Ford has held a reveal event dedicated to its new compact hatchback/SUV Puma in Germany. The model has the largest trunk compartment in its vehicle class and comes with lots of standard and optional features.

The car manufacturer carefully avoids mentioning that the Puma is essentially a lifted hatchback, rather than a full-fledged SUV, and instead praises its ‘off-road qualities’. Its exact body dimensions remain unannounced yet, but it is said that the car is comparable to the Ford Fiesta.

In Europe, the Ford Puma will ship with a hybrid powertrain consisting of a 1.0-liter three-cylinder EcoBoost engine and a starter-generator contributing 20 Newton-meters (15 pound-feet) of torque during initial acceleration. Customers will be able to choose between two power variants: 125 hp / 93 kW and 155 hp / 116 kW. All cars will initially only ship with six-speed manual transmissions, but a ‘diesel + CVT’ combo will become available at a later date.

The trunk volume amounts to 456 liters (16.1 cubic feet) if measured under the shelf. The tailgate supports hands-free opening.

The feature list of the new Ford Puma includes adaptive cruise control, automatic high/low beam, the ‘Co-Pilot360’ feature for traffic sign and road marking recognition, and a collision warning system for reversing.

Interior features include massage seats, a 12.3-inch digital dash screen, multimedia, a 10-speaker sound system, and a wireless gadget charger.

Sales in Europe start later in 2019.
