Ford has unveiled a special modification of its Ranger pickup built for the South African Cross Country Series. The new truck marks the company’s transition from the T category to the more prestigious FIA.
Three rally-ready Rangers will roll off the lines by mid-2020. Whereas some of the earlier Ranger racing builds packed the five-liter Mustang V8 under the hood, this one gets the same twin-turbo V6 as the Ford GT and the F-150 Raptor. The unit also now sits closer to the car center for a better axle load distribution.
The power rating remains undisclosed, but the same mill produces up to 450 hp (336 kW) and 692 Nm (510 lb-ft) of torque in its Raptor implementation. Installed in the Ford GT, it churns out 647 hp (482 kW).
Aside from the new heart, the off-roading Ranger boasts a wider body kit with enhanced aerodynamics, per-wheel suspension, upgraded shocks, six-piston Brembo brakes, and BF Goodrich KDR2+ tires.
