Next-gen Ford Ranger shows up on video

Ford has released the first official teaser showing a camouflaged 2022 Ranger. The updated pickup still runs its pre-production tests, but the final version should debut later this year.

From the outside, the new Ranger looks much like the larger F-150 truck with its massive bracket-shaped DRLs. It still features a body-on-frame design with a solid rear axle and different cab types to choose from (the video shows Double Cab and Crew Cab).

The details haven’t arrived yet, but Ford promises to pack the Ranger with state-of-the-art equipment, including an infotainment system with extensive online services and assorted safety aids. The truck lacks all-around cameras or blind spot monitoring, so these are both likely candidates for addition.

The second-generation Volkswagen Amarok will hit the showrooms later based on the same platform as the Ranger, marking the first time the two automakers join efforts to produce a mass-market car. The Ranger and the Amarok will share the platform and engines, and will go into production at a Ford factory in South Africa.
