This Ranger is no standard model. Built by Neil Woolridge Motorsport for the Ford Castrol Team, it will participate in rally raids in South Africa soon.
The first rally is set to begin on March 25, and Ranger NWM should be perfect for the job, because the same team drove the same car to two victories last year, coming second in the overall ranking. This year’s modifications should raise the odds of success even further.
Extensive use of carbon fiber is probably the main highlight, but there are others. The car is 300 mm (11.8 inches) wider than before thanks to radically flared arches and rides on 17-inch wheels shod in 37-inch tires. The larger wheel size enables using bigger brake rotors (355 mm / 14”).
Elsewhere, the Ranger NWM rocks an upgraded suspension with new lower and upper arms and a longer driveshaft than before. These modifications increase travel from 280 to 350 mm (from roughly 11 to 14 inches). Power comes from a 3.5-liter Ford EcoBoost V6 rated at 408 PS (402 hp / 300 kW) and 600 Nm (443 lb-ft) of torque.
