Thanks to abundant third-party offerings, modern car owners are spoilt for choice when it comes to personalizing their rides. Some, however, spurn mass-market solutions in favor of their own, homegrown inventions. Meet the Ford Ranger Rat Rod, a vehicle that stands only 95 cm (37.5 inches) tall.
The Florida-based owner of the pickup bought it in 1997 and decided to turn it into something special in 2011. He settled on making a rat rod – a low-riding vehicle rocking junkyard jalopy looks and an exposed engine.
He used air cushions and additionally cut the body and the roof to drop the ride height as much as possible, ending up with a car 950 millimeters (3 feet and 1.5 inches) tall. To put things into perspective, the new Ford Bronco Raptor has tires every bit as tall as this car.
Power for the build comes from a 2.3-liter four-pot mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. The owner claims he burnt through nine engines doing burnouts, and this is his tenth one. If that wasn’t enough to throw you off balance, consider that the roof is attached to the cabin via nails and bottle cap washers… of all things.
