A veritable time capsule of a Ford Sierra RS500 Cosworth, which has spent nearly three decades sitting in a garage, went under the hammer for £80,000 (about $102,200). You could buy a brand-new Porsche Panamera for that kind of money, but to everyone their own.
The RS Cosworth limited series saw the daylight at the Geneva International Motor Show in 1985 and hit production a year later. The total produced quantity only slightly exceeded 5,500 copies, out of which 500 were even more special than the rest. Called the RS500 Cosworth, the batch consisted of three-door hatchbacks. Each packed an advanced aerodynamic kit and a larger turbocharger, and had 227 hp (168 kW) under the hood.
The previous owner of the car bought it in 1988 and then left it stay a garage in 1992 with only 7,300 miles (11,750 km) on the odometer.
Aside from the vehicle, the winning bidder received the entire document package for the car, including the service leaflet and the inspection sticker dating back to the 1990s. He also got a spare key set.
