Speaking in a recent interview, Lisa Drake of the Ford Media Center said that the electric version of the Transit van would receive the same traction battery as the Mustang Mach-E SUV.
Apparently, the company decided to save on development costs with this move, since the traction battery is the single most expensive component of a modern electric vehicle.
LG produces this particular battery model on its factory in Poland, where it has a dedicated Ford assembly line. According to Drake, the companies have agreed to operate this line at peak capacity, i.e. 24/7.
The nature-friendly Transit van should reach the market in 2021.
