Ford confirms the rumored Transit Trail RV

The rumors heralding the advent of an overlanding Ford Transit van in the USA have proven correct: after several months of uncertainty, the U.S. automaker posted a short video confirming the launch of a special edition called Transit Trail in November.

The video shows the van standing in a forest. The accompanying text by FordPro CEO says, ‘Job Site to Campsite.’ There is little doubt that Ford wants a slice of the RV market pie, which has grown huge in the recent years.

The Transit makes a popular starting point for campervan and motorhome conversions, and the Trail version should raise the bar with its exceptional off-roading capabilities.

It remains open just what those are. The current standard engine is a 3.5-liter V6 tuned to deliver 275 hp (279 PS; 205 kW), although buyers can specify a 3.5-liter EcoBoost and benefit from its twin-turbo arrangement.
