Carwow show host Matt Watson is famous for holding some of the strangest drag races out there sometimes, but things went full-on crazy this week when Red Bull joined in and proposed testing some of the unlikeliest drag strip opponents ever.
There are two rally cars, a superbike, a Formula 1 racer and a 2,000-horsepower electric minivan at the start line. Starting with the Red Bull RB8, it weighs only 700 kg (1,543 lbs) and packs a V8 rated at 850 PS (838 hp / 625 kW).
The rallycross contender weighs in at 1,300 kilos (2,866 lbs) and packs a 2.0-liter turbo mill capable of 600 PS (592 hp / 441 kW). The other rally car is somewhat lighter at 1,260 kg (2,777 lbs), but also lags behind with 550 PS (542 hp / 404 kW) under the hood.
The KTM MotoGP superbike is the lightest of the three with 157 kg (346 lbs) of own weight and 270 PS (268 hp / 200 kW) headed to the wheels.
Now is the time to watch the video, but if you can’t for some reason, read on for spoilers.
The first race ended with the rally car and the superbike winning. The Formula 1 racer pulled into the lead about halfway in, but in the end, it could not outrun the bike. The second race had no surprises in it, but the third one certainly did.
That’s when the Ford E-Transit super van crashed the party. Tipping the scales at 1,680 kilos (3,704 lbs), it was the heaviest of the participants, but also the most powerful by far with 2,040 PS (2,012 hp / 1,500 kW) at its disposal. Piloted by Romain Dumas, it left both rally cars in the dust and ran on par with the F1 racer, just barely yielding to the bike.
