Meet Aion LX Plus, an e-SUV with supercar amounts of power and 1,000 km of range

Chinese GAC Corporation has come to the Auto Guangzhou expo with a battery-powered mid-size SUV with Aion branding, a launch time of 2.9 seconds, and 1,000 km (620 miles) of range.

Called the LX Plus, the soft-roader is 4,835 mm long, 1,935 mm wide and 1,685 mm tall. The wheelbase measures 2,920 mm long, and the Nappa-clad, minimalistic interior has seats for five. The two displays on the dashboard represent a digital gauge cluster and a 15.6-inch infotainment screen. The multimedia system uses an eight-core CPU and a ten-speaker Alpine audio set.

In its ultimate spec, the car enjoys dual electric motors jointly rated at 725 PS (715 hp / 533 kW). A dual-range gearbox sends the momentum to all four wheels. The traction battery is based on graphene power cells and holds as much as 144 kilowatt-hours of power. The driving range mentioned above is rated according to the CLTC standard.

Those who would like to cut some corners can opt for single-motor specs available in 245 PS (242 hp / 180 kW) and 326 PS (321 hp / 240 kW) variants. Charging at a 480 kW Aion terminal is the fastest way to get going, but the company is still developing its own charger network with the view of launching the first 100 stations before the end of 2021. Still, once these new chargers become widespread, they will operate considerably faster than Tesla’s Supercharger network, which currently maxes out at 250 kW.
