Chinese manufacturer GAC has revealed the first images of a production-ready crossover SUV called the Emkoo after a namesake concept that debuted at the Guangzhou Auto Show in last November. The full premiere is scheduled for Tuesday, April 26.
Based on the photos, the car only resembles its prototype at the front, which sports a rather angular look with L-shaped headlights, and at the rear with its massive c-pillars. Other than that, it appears downright dumbed down compared to the concept, dropping such obvious show gimmicks as closed wheel arches.
The early sketches also focused on quad exhaust tips and a large rear diffuser, but the real camouflaged car revealed now lacks either.
The interior has yet to show up on high-resolution photos. Until then, we only have a couple of teasers to go by, showing cylindrical air vents, an infotainment touchscreen and a Yamaha audio system.
The word ‘Hybrid’ overlaid on the camo wrap is our only clue to the powertrain of the SUV. Back when it introduced the concept, GAC said nothing about the powertrain.
Looking back at the original concept (see video), it had unique doors, lacked b-pillars and sported a very unconventional interior layout with a separate seat provided for the driver and a large corner sofa installed for the rest of the passengers. We cannot help wondering if anything of the kind might make it into production in China eventually.
